Varied Expressions of Anxiety in Autistic Children (and Why They Matter)
Join us for a presentation by Connor Kerns, PhD, who will discuss the challenges in detecting anxiety in autistic individuals. This talk will highlight the importance of recognizing both traditional and autism-related expressions of anxiety, emphasizing why understanding these variations matter.
Speaker biography: Connor Kerns, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology and the Director of the Anxiety Stress and Autism Program (ASAP) at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Her research focuses on enhancing the functioning and well-being of autistic individuals by improving our ability to detect, prevent, and treat anxiety and stress-related disorders in autistic children. Dr. Kerns has received various funding awards and has presented her findings internationally. She was recently honoured with the UBC Killam Research Prize and has contributed to autism-related public policy in both the US and Canada.
